Hayne sticks with Eels

Hayne slips through AFL's net

17/12/2009 1:55 PM

Jarryd Hayne has signed a new four-year deal with Parramatta, thwarting Sydney's second AFL team from stealing him away from rugby league.

The brilliant No.1 will remain an Eel until the end of the 2014 season, with the club to official announce his re-signing on Thursday evening.

Hayne was in the sights of the Greater Western Sydney franchise, which will enter the AFL competition in 2012.

After Karmichael Hunt was poached from the Brisbane Broncos to join the Gold Coast AFL team, AFL officials were hoping to land another major strike by securing Hayne.

But the Dally M medallist says he has plenty left to achieve in rugby league and was never tempted by GWS's reported $1m-a-year deal.
